Understand more about individual artists and art history
Express onself through different creative and artistic techniques

Continue learning about classic works of art in our Great Artists Series with Laura Nickel! She is back to lead three more visual art workshops, where you’ll explore a new Master Artist and create your own masterpiece using their techniques. See Resources below for each workshop description and materials list.

Workshop 1: Selfies (August 24 at 2pm)

In this hour-long workshop, students K–8 will look at self portraits done by the Master Artists, paying attention to the expression of emotion and symbolism. Content includes looking at self-portraits from the masters, a short tutorial on how to draw a head, a sample of simple facial expressions, and an opportunity to draw a self-portrait with facial expressions and symbolism.

Workshop 2: Crazy About Apples (August 31 at 2pm)

In this 50-minute long workshop, students K–8 will look at samples of still life paintings done by master artists, draw a still life of apples, and use a medium and style of their own choice (paint, pencil, oil pastel, watercolor, crayons or markers) to make their own still life.

Workshop 3: Pumpkin Fest (September 7 at 2pm)

In this 50-minute workshop, students will learn about Georgia O’Keeffe’s contribution to art history, called “American Modernism”. We will draw large pumpkins and learn to use color to show depth perception.
